Craton Equity Partners began in Los Angeles in the mid 1990s as an investment fund focused on small companies in need of growth capital in the basic industry and manufacturing sector. The core group of Partners have remained together since that time and, with the addition of another Partner, comprise a unique and valuable blend of expertise from the fields of finance, investments, law, accounting, energy, water and environmental policy. In 2005, the partnership shifted its mandate and focus exclusively on clean tech and environmental technology.
Historically, the Partners have managed institutional
money by investing in a number of smaller “basic
industry” companies located primarily in the western
United States with tremendous success and return for
the investors. These companies were in the businesses
of banking, wood products, metal fabrication, specialty
meat products, aerospace and educational products. These
were primarily small companies which grew successfully
under the management expertise of the Craton Partners.
Shifting our expertise to small growth companies in
certain sectors of the clean tech sector, Craton Equity
Partners now invests in water remediation, waste conversion
and “green” building materials. We believe
that companies providing clean environmental solutions
in these areas will be driven by the demands of the
market, following public sentiment as well as federal
and state regulations. In addition, we find that major
global trends are emerging in the clean tech sector
to create new and exciting investment opportunities.
These global trends include i) independence from foreign
oil, ii) urbanization and the necessity to replace worn-out
existing infrastructure, and iii) climate change.
Given the significant additional experience of certain
Craton Partners in founding companies that were leaders
in the clean tech sectors, we are uniquely qualified
to realize significant returns in this rapidly expanding
market. The opportunities which exist in clean water,
energy generation from renewable sources, ethanol, waste
conversion technologies, among others, are expanding
every day as the financial markets realize the need for
the expansion of such companies.
