President and Chief Executive Officer

Hawaii BioEnergy is a consortium of Hawaiian landowners and California-based venture capital companies focused on working in concert with the Hawaiian community to provide local energy and food security, renewable materials, a carbon neutral environment and creating local jobs. Paul is Chairman of Kuehnle AgroSystems (Hawaii) whose focus is the development of elite lines of algae to support the production of renewable fuels and chemicals. He is Adjunct Professor of Horticulture and a member of the graduate faculty at North Carolina State University, a Director of Godavari Sugar Mills Ltd. (Mumbai, India – sugar, ethanol and fine chemicals) and is Senior Advisor to Principle Energy (Mozambique, Africa – renewable energy). He serves on the North American Biotechnology Business Advisory Council for the Queensland, Australia Government and is a member of various working groups within the non-profit environmental organizations Environmental Entrepreneurs/NRDC all focusing on clean technology and renewable energy policy and development.
Paul received his undergraduate degree from Lewis and Clark College (1976- Ecology and Secondary Education) and his Ph.D. in Botany and Plant Pathology from Colorado State University (1980) where he worked on development of cropping systems for dry-land agriculture. He has held scientific, development, operations and senior administrative positions with start-up and fortune 500 companies. He has extensive international experience and has been a founder of several agricultural and renewable energy based companies. |

Paul is a Fellow of the Weed Science Society of America. He is an inventor on over 30 issued US patents. He was named in 2006 as a Queensland Champion by the Queensland, Australia Government (the first American citizen to be so honored). Paul has a career interest in K-12 education and community service initiatives. He serves on the Board of Directors of The KISS Institute for Practical Robotics (Norman OK – a national program oriented on attracting students to science through robotics). |
